Madrugada - Shops and delivery volunteers

Shops and delivery volunteers

We are always in need of people to volunteer in our shops, help out in our storerooms and make sure our collection and delivery services run smoothly. There are lots of benefits to volunteering such as gaining transferable skills, meeting new people and making a difference to our cause. If you know someone who has a few hours to spare each week and would like to help us, please pass on a volunteer application form to them.

No previous retail experience is required to work as an assistant in our shops, just a sunny smile and a desire to help are all the qualifications required. As a charity shop volunteer, you could be serving customers, creating eye-catching displays, getting stock ready behind the scenes or collecting donations as a volunteer driver. These are just a few of the volunteer roles which are available in our charity shops:

  • Customer service assistant: talking to customers and making them feel welcome and completing transactions in an efficient manner. Cash handling, stock monitoring and store opening/closing are all part of this busy role.
  • Department specialists: coordinating our books, vinyl, accessories or homeware displays
  • Stock room assistant: sorting donations we receive - looking out for the hidden gems and making sure shelves are re-stocked in a timely manner
  • Volunteer driver: collecting donations from people's homes or businesses and taking them to the local shop
  • Stock generator: encouraging local organisations and individuals to donate their unwanted items.

You can give as much time as you like and our flexible rotas mean you can schedule your contribution with the shop manager. Some volunteers give us three hours a week, others give us thirty, but no matter what, they are all making a vital contribution towards Madrugada’s work. You will be joining a friendly team where you will get to meet people from all walks of life. Volunteering really is a great way to meet people and be part of your local community.

Become a volunteer driver

If you enjoy driving, love meeting new people and have a few spare hours to give each week, you may want to consider becoming a volunteer driver. We want to make the process of donating to us as stress-free as possible so we offer a free collection service for people who have large items to donate but are unable to bring them into our shops.

Volunteer drivers will become part of a friendly team, while making a real contribution to our cause and it’s a great way to keep active. Volunteer drivers must be over 25 years of age and have a full, clean licence from an EU / EEA country.
