PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION IN AID OF MADRUGADA

Calling all photographers, both budding and professional!

Madrugada Association is delighted to announce its 2027 Wall Calendar competition, themed “Algarve in Motion”, the proceeds from which will raise vital funds and awareness for its free hospice-at-home service.

This year’s theme invites photographers to capture the dynamic spirit of the Algarve—celebrating movement with a strong focus on life on how we get around our wonderful countryside. Whether on foot, by self-propelled means or by some form of transport entrants are encouraged to submit striking images that reflect motion, transportation, and the unique character of the region.

Photography that conveys movement—by whatever means—can transform everyday scenes into compelling visual stories. From vehicles navigating winding coastal roads, passing runners and riders, to trains crossing the landscape or even paragliders soaring overhead looking down on the perpetual movement in and on the region’s seascape, this competition highlights the Algarve as a place alive with energy, connection, and constant motion.

Twelve outstanding images will be selected for inclusion in the 2027 calendar, which is scheduled to go on sale from mid-September. Photographers are encouraged to start capturing their entries now to meet the submission deadline of 31st July.

Each entrant may submit up to three images in landscape orientation via the dedicated competition email address: madrugada2027calendar@gmail.com.

Please ensure that each submission clearly includes your name as you would like it to appear credited in the calendar.

Entrants must confirm in their submission email that they agree to these Terms & Conditions.

A panel of judges will review all entries, and the selected 12 photographers will each receive a prize in recognition of their work.

All proceeds from calendar sales will directly support Madrugada’s hospice-at-home service, which provides compassionate, end-of-life care, free of charge to patients and families across the Algarve.

The “Algarve in Motion” Calendar 2027 will be available from September 2026, with pre-orders opening in advance—making it a meaningful and beautiful gift for the festive season.
